Oldie, but goodies .....

5th Grade Math this week....

  • November Number Corner-- This month we will be looking at how to classify triangles based on lengths of sides and angles.  In addition we will be locating the position of these triangles on a coordinate grid to learn about ordered pairs.  Finally, we will also be using the metric system and comparing how meters relate to centimeters, decimeters, decameters and kilometers.
  • This week worked on drawing and comparing decimals.  Next, we moved on to learning how to round decimals to specific place values.  We also made some comparisons with decimal and fraction equivalencies.  Finally, we started to use our understanding of decimal comparisons to plot out decimals on a number line.
  • After the long weekend, we will continue with decimal equivalencies and begin  look at metric conversions.

Literacy this week....

  • This week we worked on analyzing a model of a directors' note.
  •  Groups then worked together to take notes, plan and write a draft of a directors' note for their monologue scenario.
  • Finally, students were asked to independently write a directors' note on their own. a monologue and then using this to help us begin putting together our group
  • We did some peer critique with one another to help revise our writing.
  • Students practiced their fluency while reading their monologues aloud.
  • Next week we will present our monologues to the class!
  •  Our theme for this first quarter is Human Rights.
  • After the long weekend, we will begin Module 2--Rainforests.
