*Please bring a lawn chair or blanket to use if you don’t want to stand for the concert/celebration

Order of Events:

  • 12:45 pm - Playground will be open for families

  • 1:15-1:30 pm - Classes line up and come out to the playground

  • 1:30-2:10 pm - Words to the graduates, music presentation and student names will be read by classroom teachers

  •  2:10-2:25 pm - Greet and gather with families

  • 5th Grade Moving On Ceremony/Music Concert will be held on Wednesday, June 7th from 1:30 pm- the end of the day (more info to come) 
  •  Tri 4 Schools creates a fair, safe, and fun environment for kids to be active. But we can’t do that without volunteers! If you, your family, or friends are interested in an awesome day watching kids accomplish their goals, you can learn more and sign up here.  It’s officially spring, and we are just over one month away from our first Tri 4 Schools event of the year!  Registration is open! Remember, 100% of youth entry fees are donated to your schools. The more kids that participate from your school, the more money you earn. In 2022, the top school earned over $1,000! Please contact Amanda Marek Carlson, Executive Director ( amanda@tri4schools.org) if there are any questions or if there are students with a financial aid need.

5th Grade Math this week....

  • April Number Corner--This month will involve more work with volume once again.  Students will also work with fractions as related to time and money.  In addition, they will review learning on their understanding of decimals and number sense. 
  • This week we focused on working with strategies for division.
  • Next week we will do some fraction division

Literacy this week....

  • Module 3--Athletes Leaders of Social Change
  • Students also spent time discussing and exploring how to form and support an opinion based on a text. 
  • Next week, we will begin our final unit in Module 3.  We will be exploring and close reading a new text on Jim Abbott and comparing and contrasting him to Jackie Robinson.
Science this week....
  • Ecosystem Restoration Unit Question:  How do organisms in an ecosystem get the matter and energy they need to grow and thrive?
  • Ecosystem Restoration Chapter One Question:  Why aren't jaguars and sloths growing and thriving?

  • It is time to "Pay the Piper" for those snow days.....
  •                    1) On Mondays during the weeks of April 3, to June 5, 2023 - there will be an additional 60
                                                                                         minutes of asynchronous learning for grades K-12.

                       2)  April 10, 2023 - will be a full day of asynchronous learning for all grades K-12.

    • "Read In/Stuffy Day" --On Friday, March 24th, our classrooms will have a designated time for the students to just read any text they would like a healthy chunk of time.  They are also allowed to bring in a stuffed animal for the day.  (Must be able to fit on top of desk along with a text/book.)

5th Grade Math this week....

  • March Number Corner--This month we will continue to look at area, but by multiplying with decimals instead of fractions.  We will also do some data collection and line plots. Finally we will learn a form of bingo involving division with decimals.  
  • This week we started off with a quiz on coordinate grids and ordered pairs that we had to reschedule because of our virtual day.
  • We then reviewed our understandings of how to work on how to classify triangles and quadrilaterals.
  • Next week we will revisit volume.

Literacy this week....

  • Module 3--Athletes Leaders of Social Change
  • We will be finishing our mentor text with close reading, discuss the gist of our text, find main ideas and key details.
  • We are focusing on writing informational summaries from text........LOTS OF SUMMARIES :)
  • We will take our end of Module 3 Unit 1 assessment.
  • Next week we will begin Unit 2 that will focus on opinion writing around factors that we felt were the most important in breaking the color barrier in baseball.

  • Our third science unit-Earth Systems.
  • Unit Question:  What can determine how much water is available for human use?
  •  Chapter Five: How can East Ferris turn wastewater into clean freshwater?

  • March Number Corner--This month we will continue to look at area, but by multiplying with decimals instead of fractions.  We will also do some data collection and line plots. Finally we will learn a form of bingo involving division with decimals. 
  • This week we took the Unit 5 assessment and the Bridges Interim Assessment #2
  • Then, we jumped into Unit  6 and started refreshing our skills with coordinate grids.  
  • Next week we will add onto these skills by looking a patterns and sequences  with our ordered pairs.  Finally, we will take a quiz to assess how we are doing.  

Literacy this week....

  • This week we started Module 3--Athletes Leaders of Social Change

  • We Read Youth Voices Writing Contest

    Madison Public Library will once again host the We Read Youth Voices Writing Contest in collaboration with Forward Madison FC in the spring of 2023. Youth 18 and under are encouraged to submit a story, poem, song, etc. to the contest, with the opportunity to win prizes and be published in the We Read Anthology. The library will be announcing the new youth ambassador, theme and prize info in March, with submissions for the contest opening on Monday, April 3, 2023. For more info, visit:

5th Grade Math this week....

  • February Number Corner--This month we will be revisiting the old friend known as area.  We will look at the dimensions of various objects and multiply to find the area of each object in square units.   In addition, we will be measuring liquids and converting liters and deciliters to  milliliters and back again.  
  • This week we focused our learning around making generalizations about multiplying with fractions, started some division of fraction models and story problems, and we took a small quiz to see how we are doing so far.
  • Next week we will finish up the unit, review and take and end of unit assessment.

Literacy this week....

  • Our theme for Module 2--Rainforests. 
  • This week we finished our revisions on our personal narratives as part of our end of unit 3 assessment.  We also assessed our understanding of conjunctions, prepositions and interjections.  
  • In our groups, we wrote an author's note for our end of the unit project e-book.
  • We also analyzed some book covers and designed a cover for our e-book.  wrote our own narrative writing for our mid-unit assessment.  Then we used this narrative as a draft to do some revisions and editing.
  • Next week we will finish up our e-books!!!  Then we will take a few days to catch-up on any lessons and share our hard work. 
Science this week....
  • Next week we will start our third science unit-Earth Systems.
  • Unit Question:  What can determine how much water is available for human use?
  • Chapter One: Why does more rain form over West Ferris than East Ferris?
Social Studies this week....
  •  Black History Month---  Classrooms may differ on what they are doing, so be sure to ask your kiddo what they did.
